About the book:

Just a few months shy of her 30th birthday, Gus discovers Nate, her "Mr. Right," hooking up behind her back with her so-called "friend" Helen. Soon it seems despite working to hard to appear all grown up, Gus is still living the life of a teenager.

Gus is left with more questions than answers: Can she win Nate back before she turns 30 (And if so, does she really want him?) Is Helen really as devious and manipulative as she seems, or, worse, is Gus more like her frenemy Helen than she’d care to admit? And is she ever going to grow up? With the clock ticking down to her birthday, Gus discovers that sometimes the best thing about best-laid plans is trashing them altogether.

In FRENEMIES, Gus experiences first hand what happens when you reach that inevitable point in life when you must surrender yourself to adulthood and the big 3-0.

Megan’s take on the RosettWrites Q & A:

Dream vacation destination? The Maldives.  I keep seeing these incredible pictures of impossibly beautiful beaches, and I want to go!

You’ve just won the lottery. What’s the first thing you do/buy? A house.  Several houses, maybe.  I am tired unto death of renting.

Favorite mystery/thriller movie?  I have never been as scared in my life as when I watched "When A Stranger Calls"-- the original, of course.  My friend and I screamed so loud the next door neighbor pounded on the door to make sure we weren't under attack.  And this was in New York City.

Favorite junk food? I love both salty AND sweet junky snacks, so how can I pick one?  I'm like a human vacuum cleaner.  In fact, this question makes me hungry.

What’s one food you absolutely can’t stand?  Lima beans.  Gah.  I gag just thinking about them.

Paper or plastic? Plastic.  I pick up after my dog.

What’s one talent you wish you had?  I wish I could play a musical instrument well, like the piano.  Also, I wish I was a great athlete.  If I was both at the same time, who knows, I could be a superhero!

M&Ms or Godiva?  Why choose?  I am an equal-opportunity chocolate lover.

Favorite time of Day? Whenever I finish writing a bunch of pages.  That's the best time of day.  I feel so accomplished and virtuous...

Tell us a little about your book. Did an event or idea inspire the book?  I've long been fascinated by the not-so-nice interactions between women who were supposed to be friends.  It's a whole secret world, and I hope I shed some light on some small part of it.  Also, we all know that "Mean Girls" do not get over themselves after high school-- they just hone their weapons.

What’s your writing style? Outline or no outline?  I wish I could outline.  I hate outlining.  This is why my drafts are great, sprawling messes that make me cry.

What do you wish you’d known about either the craft of writing or the business of publishing when you first started writing?  I wish I'd known how hard it was.  It might have made me pay more attention in school.  I also wish I'd known how much I'd love it-- it might have spurred me to start sooner.  This is the best, most demanding, hardest, and most exciting job in the world.  I wish I'd known that, too!

What’s up next for you? What are you working on now?  My fourth book, not yet named but about sisters, is due out next spring.  And I'm hard at work on my fifth!
